Resume
Tips
Resume length – what do administrators
really want?
1-2 pages is
preferred.
Should you show off your graphic
capabilities in your resume – for instance, should you use
fancy borders?
No, keep it simple. Help the
administrator/attorney focus on the information in your
resume. Highlight yourself, not
the paper.
The legal profession is a very
conservative one so always keep this in mind when designing
your resume. If
you were applying for a job as a graphic designer, then it
would be acceptable to allow your creativity total
freedom.
Color of Paper – White or very light cream. I know some people
recommend using “bond” paper, but honestly, most of your
resumes will be faxed or e-mailed, so “bond” paper is just not
necessary.
References – include them with your
cover letter and
resume?
No, not unless the ad specifically
requests it.
Note:
Just make sure that you’ve proofread both your resume
and cover letter thoroughly before they’re
forwarded.
Remember, both of these documents are reflecting you –
they are your sales tools.
