links to state statutes, constitutions, administrative codes,
regulations and city ordinances
Cornell Legal Information Institute <http://www.law. cornell.edu/> offers an easier to use, searchable
version of the U.S. Code from the official version made available by the
U.S. House of Representatives. It also provides an RSS feed for each
title to track updates. Other available documents include: federal
rules, the Uniform Commercial Code, U.S. Supreme Court opinions, and
links to state primary legal materials.
Electronic Discovery Law <http://www.ediscove rylaw.com/> is a
site where lawyers at K&L Gates post case summaries, and other
commentary, related to electronic data discovery (EDD). It provides an
RSS feed for tracking site updates as well as a database of EDD case
summaries. As an aside, the DOJ libraries provide BNA's Digital
Discovery and e-Evidence <http://10.173. 2.12/jmd/ lib/fulltext. php> .
Since BNA is a reputable commercial publisher, you may find it more toyour liking. It is also free for us to use since the DOJ library
handles the licensing and fees
The Bluebook <http://www.legalblu ebook.com/> is an online
source for searching or accessing the Bluebook from any computer. It
also provides tips on citation style and rules, Bluebook updates and
archives copies of older editions. As mentioned in a previous email,
the annual subscription cost of The Bluebook online far exceeds the cost
of a print copy over time. The Library Advisory Group has asked DOJ
Libraries to look into underwriting access to it. Also, in case you
hadn't heard, the editors are beginning to work on the 19th edition.
BRB Publications Inc <http://www.brbpub. com/> . is a fee-based
database for discovering what is public record in specific jurisdictions
and how to obtain it, either on-site or online. A blog addresses changes
in public records law, policy or procedure
ZoomInfo <http://www.zoominfo .com/> is a search engine that
finds information about companies or people. It uses computer algorithms
to compile profiles. Therefore, verification is important. ZoomInfo is
a great source for leads, or for discovering information that searching
elsewhere didn't find.
A new, free, legal research Web site called PreCYdent <http://www.precyden t.com/> is worth a look. Initial reports indicate
that its search engine may be more effective at finding relevant case
law than Westlaw and LexisNexis.
